The coronavirus pandemic has led many state and local governments to require social distancing measures for not only takeout and delivery service but also patio and in-house dining at restaurants and other foodservice venues. These practices require additional sanitation measures to help mitigate the risk of COVID-19. All Ballyhoo staff members on site have completed a ServSafe training on appropriate hygiene and sanitation practices.

At Sophia Steak, we relish the pleasure of a great steak. It’s our thing, but it’s far from the only thing. Our kitchen also serves the freshest seafood, big crunchy salads, delicious sides, daily specials and a terrific burger. We set the bar high for everything we do, but we stop short of fancy. Paired with personalized service, a comfortable room that feels like home, and the care of our founders, Glenn Keefer and Ryan O’Donnell—lifelong friends who know a thing or two about steak and hospitality—Sophia Steak is the neighborhood steakhouse for the North Shore.

We have been hard at work to find the best, scientifically-proven ways to make our indoor space as safe as we possibly can because you are important to us and we value your health and the health of our team.

We invested in several key products to help filtrate and replace the air to promote sanitization within our dining room. If you're curious, those measures include MERV - 13 filters for the 20 tons of central air in the restaurant supplied by our HVAC system. Additionally, we purchased seven portable, airborne virus elimination units to replace our indoor air an additional 5-6 times per hour. These units are equipped with HEPA filters and ultraviolet C lights, which disassembles the RNA of COVID-19. The technology behind these units is the same as that used in emergency rooms and doctors’ offices to inactivate airborne virus and bacteria.
We are also utilizing Stabilized Aqueous Ozone technology - which is water with an extra oxygen molecule - to kill pathogens like COVID-19, E-coli, and Salmonella on surfaces, as well as foods to help prevent food-borne illnesses. Finally, in the kitchen, we’ve added an upgraded exhaust fan to help promote air circulation - any time the front entrance door opens, you’ll hear a whistle as fresh air gets sucked up and out of the kitchen, the dining room, and ultimately every opening in the doors and windows!
